Sharlene Medley
Sharlene was born in Port Arthur, Texas
and attended school in Orange with her best friend,
current roommate, and former Rodeo Hero Angela. She
loves to spend holidays and vacations with her family
which includes her parents, sisters Amanda and Joelle
and their families including her 5 nephews and 1 niece.
Sharlene loves music and is an
outstanding performer. She has several awards from the
State Music Festival. Her favorite performance is sign
language solos and she has won top honors for several
years. This past year she received the “Most
Outstanding Performer” award topping all other
performers in all of the state centers.
Sharlene enjoys working and has held a
variety of positions at the center. She is currently
sorting and packaging items for local businesses. She
enjoys sending email messages to her family and walking
for exercise.
Sharlene is the President of the Lufkin
Living Center Aktion Club which is sponsored by the
Lufkin Kiwanis Club. She and other club members were
busy during the past holiday season providing community
service through volunteering at the Lufkin Thanksgiving
food drive, purchasing Christmas gifts for children,
serving as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army Kettle
Drive, and caroling at the Neches House.
Sharlene’s best
friend Angela is a cancer survivor and Sharlene has been
a great supporter by going with Angela to all the
Angelina County American Cancer Society Relay for Life
events
for several years.
Sharlene’s
favorite saying is “It’s a good day”. And this is what
she said when she found out that she was selected to be
this year’s Rodeo Hero.
